Conroe, Texas

The city of Conroe, TX, is located in Montgomery County.  It is near Houston, Cleveland, Magnolia, Montgomery, Spring, The Woodlands, and Willis.   As of the 2010 census, Conroe had a population of over 56,200.

History

Conroe began in 1881, after a Southern Cavalry Officer, Isaac Conroe, built a sawmill there.  It has remained prosperous throughout the 19th century, thanks to both the oil and lumber industry.  Of special interest, legendary entertainer, Elvis Presley, performed at the High School in August 1955.

With the completion of Interstate 45, several new and vibrant communities began to flourish in and around Conroe.  Several locals and other Houstonians enjoy various recreational watersports at Lake Conroe, spurring further growth and development.
